Icebreaker was founded in 1995 with the mission to provide garments for outdoor adventures with less reliance on petrochemical fibers, providing a more sustainable future for us - and the planet. To do this they developed their own Merino wool fiber. The fibre is made from Merino sheep, one of the world's toughest breeds, built to survive the scorching summers and freezing winters of New Zealand’s rugged Southern Alps range.
Each wool fiber can absorb up to 37 percent of its weight without feeling wet, pulling water vapor away from your body and spreading it across a larger surface area so it can evaporate. The "crimp" or kinkiness of the wool fibers also builds dead air space into any wool garment, providing insulation even when wet.
Oh, and Merino wool is naturally odor resistant, so you can wear these pieces multiple days in a row and your shirt won’t smell.
