Straddling the Illinois Prairie Path – a popular recreation trail built on the former right-of-way of the Chicago Aurora and Elgin Railroad – Elmhurst occupies a unique place in the running history of Chicago. The proud home of York High School where for decades, under the tutelage of legendary coach Joe Newton, produced “The Long Green Line” of championship boys’ and girls’ cross-country and track and field teams in Illinois and runners who have gone to compete on the collegiate and international stage. Fleet Feet Sports-Chicago opened their third location, and first outside of the city of Chicago, in Elmhurst in 2005 to offer fantastic service and support to the running community in western Cook and Dupage counties and is a proud sponsor of the popular 4 on the 4th race held every July.
