What is it about turkey trots?

Across the country, there are 10,000- and 20,000-person turkey rrot mega races. Or small town turkey trots where you can throw down $20 on race morning in an empty church parking lot, slap on a bib and run down Main Street. You can run one of the countless Turkey Trot 5Ks, or go the distance in an 8K or 10K. There's even a Turkey Trot at a half marathon distance. The likely oldest race in the country — run every year since 1896 in Buffalo, N.Y. — is, of course, a Turkey Trot.

For many of us, the Turkey Trot was that first race we ever ran as a kid. Maybe it’s the only race you’ll do all year. Point is, if you’re not running this Thanksgiving, you’re missing out on a pretty spectacular running tradition.

So with that in mind, we’ve got a list of turkey trots around the Chicago area.
