HOKA ONE ONE Debuts Impossibly Cushioned and Carbon-Plated Carbon X at 50-Mile Record Breaking Race

HOKA ONE ONE debuted their never-before-seen HOKA ONE ONE Carbon X shoe during Project Carbon X, a 100km race solely focused on breaking the the 36-year standing world record.

Roughly a dozen HOKA ONE ONE athletes lined Saturday, May 4th in Folsom, California each of them wearing the same pair of shoes, each of them focused on setting records. Coined Project Carbon X, the event was part record-setting attempt and part publicity stunt for HOKA ONE ONE's upcoming racing shoe and Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% competitor, the Carbon X.

While the 100km still stands, Jim Walmsley managed to take down the 50-mile record set by Bruce Fordyce in 1983. Walmsley beat Fordyce’s 4-hour, 50-minute, 21-second mark with a new record time of 4 hours, 50 minutes, 7 seconds.

 It appears the impossibly cushioned, carbon-plated shoes worked.

The new Carbon X features a carbon-fiber plate in its midsole and an aggressive Metarocker. These are designed to provide an efficient, propulsive ride for athletes going at any speed. HOKA’s signature active footframe construction is designed to make the shoe stable and supportive for a racing flat that weighs in at a mere 241g (men’s size 9).
