What Does it Measure?

lumo run what does it measure

Cadence

Cadence refers to how many times per minute your foot hits the ground while running or walking. The ideal cadence for running is about 180 steps per minute. Values lower than 180 steps per minute can indicate that you are overstriding, thus not being as efficient as possible. LumoRun measures cadence and gives you tips on how to correct this running metric.

Bounce

Bounce is the vertical movement of your body when you run; also known as oscillation. If your body is moving up and down too much while you run, it is often indicative of inefficient form. Goal for runners is 5% of your height or lower. With cues from LumoRun, you can work to lower your vertical oscillation and become more efficient.

Braking

Ever want to know how much your speed slows with each step? Well LumoRun can measure breaking. This is measured in feet per second, with a goal of 1.3 feet per second or lower. Why is this important? The more you slow down, the more energy your body will need to get back to the speed you were at. If you can reduce the amount of breaking, the more efficient your run will be.

Pelvic Rotation

Rotation measures the side-to-side movement around an axis (your spine!), LumoRun measures any asymmetric movements to the left or right during your run. Ideally, you rotate less than 15 degrees to either side. LumoRun’s cues while running or post-running exercises can help improve your pelvic rotation

Pelvic Tilt or Drop

Pelvic Tilt or Drop measures the up and down movement of your pelvis while running. A large change here can indicate weakness in the hips or core. Ideally, your pelvic tilt is less than 12 degrees. Coaching cues from the LumoRun can help you correct this while on the run and personalized exercises post-run can help you become stronger.

The LumoRun is available at all Fleet Feet Sports - Chicago locations.
