With triathlon season coming up quickly, Fleet Feet Sports – Chicago wants you to find yourself in the right gear, no matter the distance. Be it a super-sprint or long-course triathlon, you need to be comfortable in order to succeed and have fun. Here’s a quick idea of what we have assorted in our Fleet Feet Sports - Old Town store, perfect for any triathlete.
A tri-kit is essential for most distances in triathlon (some may argue you want a full bike kit and run kit for long-course distance depending on how many hours you’ll be out there). A tri-kit can either be a one-piece suit or a top and bottom of your choice. Ladies, don’t forget to check on compatibility with your sports bra! We have tri kits from 2XU, Zoot, and Pearl Izumi. Here are some of our favorite looks from all three brands:
2XU’s triathlon collection is X-VENT based for both Men and Women. This means that you get the breathability and ventilation you need for hot, steamy summer triathlons. We have a tri-suit option and separates for both men and women.
Pearl Izumi’s Men’s Triathlon offerings range from ELITE In-R-COOL ® LTD Tri Singlets and 9” Shorts in high end prints to make you feel like elite triathlete. Both Men and Women have an ELITE Pursuit collection including separates and tri-suits.
The Zoot Sports Men’s and Women’s Performance Tri lines are some of our best-sellers each season. Fun prints are offered in separates and tri-suits.
A wet-suit comes in handy for chilly open-water swim practice and can be helpful in races (be sure your race allows a wetsuit; it can depend on the distance and water temperature). Our Old Town store features Blue Seventy wetsuits.
It is no secret that you need to be organized when it comes to triathlon. You need a lot of…stuff. Here’s the quick and dirty on the needs for triathlon.
You need something to carry all this stuff in. This bag is it. Fits everything you need to set up your transition area.
A timing chip strap comes in handy because the ones triathlons offer are either re-used (nasty) or one-time use (uncomfortable). A racebelt is a quick way to put your bib on after you get out of the swim. Just clip and go.
Get a pair of goggles that you like (we recommend coming to get fit for a pair of Aquasphere goggles!) and get a second pair. There is nothing worse that getting in your start corral and realizing you have broken goggles. Back up options! PS – polarized or tinted lenses are best for swimming outdoors.
The Garmin Fenix 5, Fenix 5S, 935, and 735XT are all feature multi-sport (triathlon) function. This means you just hit “Lap” when you’re switching from Swim to T1 to Bike to T2 to Run.
You’ll need a bunch of other small things: socks (remember to find a pair you love and keep an extra pair in transition), Sunglasses, Water Bottles, Nutrition, Running Shoes, Sunscreen/Lip Balm, Body Glide, and a Hat or Visor.
Before you start to celebrate, make sure you start your recovery with a pair of compression socks, Oofos Sandals, and recovery food and drink.
