What is your racing focus?
Places: What is your favorite place to run and why?
The most amazing place I have ever run is around Lake Louise in Canada. It was the most staggeringly beautiful run of my life. A little closer to home, my favorite route to run in Chicago is what I call the Harbor Tour, which goes along the edge of the waterfront from Belmont Harbor all the way north to Hollywood. Best views in Chicago.
Favorite running gear?
I absolutely love the Nike Flyknit Racer. It is one of the greatest shoes ever made and is my single favorite shoe of all time. A close second is the Nike Vaporfly 4%, which is the fastest shoe I've ever worn.
What is your go-to pre-workout or race meal?
The night before hard marathon workouts, I love to eat pho from Tank Noodle. It's absolutely delicious, and it gets me hydrated.
Do you have any specific pre-race rituals or superstitions? What are they?
Coffee. No coffee, no race.
What is your favorite way to celebrate a good race?
Past and future
What is your most memorable running moment?
My most memorable running moment came when I was about two hundred meters from the finish line of the Berlin Marathon this past September. It was at that moment that I looked up at the clock and realized that I was about to qualify for the Olympic Trials after a decade of working toward that goal. I can't even describe the feeling.
What are some of your goals for 2018?
I am turning my focus to shorter events in 2018, so I would love to run PRs at the mile and the 5k. That would be fun for a 36 year old guy!
